BizTechDay: Entrepreneurship, Optimism, Filipino Talent

I wrote an Inquirer.net news story about the second annual BizTechDay conference and workshop held in Millbrae, CA a few weeks ago. I heard nothing but great and positive responses from attendees, speakers and exhibitors. I discovered the event when I attended a MeetUp Business Entrepreneur session in San Francisco last spring. I've been to many business networking events but this one was more interactive offering valuable press and social networking marketing opportunities for all attendees on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and the Meetup site. To add to the building excitement, esteemed guest panelists were lining up as late as two weeks before the event such Craig Newmark, Craiglist Founder followed by Kevin Rose, Digg Founder .

How to score a contract with PG&E or AT&T

I wrote a news story about PG&E's sponsored "Supplier Diversity and Matchmaking Workshop" that was held at their San Francisco office recently. Click on http://globalnation.inquirer.net/region/americas/view/20090730-217903/Fil-Am-businesses-get-boost-from-CA-agencies for my complete story on Inquirer.net. I go in detail on how small businesses and businesses owned by minorities, women, and disabled veterans can gain access to contract opportunities with utility giants such as Comcast and AT&T through state certification. Listing on this major certification database is free but only 3,000 California businesses are in the directory which tells me that this valuable and reputable resource is largely unknown to small business owners. Basically its THE go to bible that these big companies first reach for when they need quality contractors. You may be thinking, what kind of services can I provide to PG&E? The electric/natural gas giant may not be your target market...

Running a Business, Networking and Learning at the same time.

Iā€™m not a small business owner but I do feel for the little guys scrounging around to make ends meet in this tough economy. With San Francisco office rentals still too high to afford, one can only work at home and have business meetings at restaurants and cafes for only so long. Plus, getting out of the house (and pajamas) by noon and connecting with people the old fashioned way (versus online) is good for your soul and psyche. Itā€™s not a good sign if you end up talking to yourself more than to people face to face! There are two office space rentals that I fell upon that cater to start ups, freelancers and small businesses. But more than just space, they offer a sense of community with various support systems for those brave enough to jump off the cliff and just do it. Each one offers affordable rates and various plans. Daly City Business Center is right off Highway 280 near Serramonte Mall in Daly City, a 10 minute drive south west of San Francisco. http://www.dalycity.or...

How your small business can thrive and survive in San Francisco

Attention all current and future entrepreneurs! San Francisco is celebrating the national Small Business Week. In various venues throughout the city, the week long festivities include resource events, networking mixers, sidewalk sales and workshops in social media, green business, technology, marketing, etc. Learn, educate, inspire or (get inspired), sell yourself (but not your soul), distribute your business cards and make connections. Make it happen. http://www.sfsmallbusinessweek.com/

How to make money in this economy

http://blog.futurewomenleaders.net/blog/bid/19763/How-to-generate-business-in-a-recession-for-less-than-50 I've been attending various workshops and lectures in the Bay Area targeting small business owners and current/future entrepreneurs. I wrote a post for Future Women Leaders about one of the lectures conducted by a Business Expert and Marketing Consultant. He shared an inexpensive checklist of strategies on how to stay afloat during these hard times, gain traction and build smart partnerships. Very helpful advice for any business regardless of the size (are you listening Corporate America!) and industry.
